Engines of the Broken World, by Jason Vanhee
In a rural village far distant from the dead and dying cities, Merciful and her older brother Gospel have grown up in isolation. Their father dead, their mother unstable, they rely on their Minister, a made thing from the city, to help and guide them. As an early, brutal snowstorm settles in around them, they must deal with the sudden death of their mother and the realization that the Minister is not what it seems. In the shrinking circle of her world, Merciful will discover that sometimes death is not the end of things. She will find out horrible secrets, and will be forced to make decisions that may save or doom her world. But will her strength and her faith be enough to make the right choice?
