An anthology of speculative fiction stories focused on uprisings: revolution, social change, civil disobedience, marches, protests and those that make them happen. We're looking for stories of those who rise up, who strive and succeed, or even fail, to change their lives, their situations, and their worlds. The stories should center on what drives a revolution, and who makes it happen - or fail; dedication to a cause or principle, or outrage against inequity and oppression; the reasons for protest, civil disobedience, or armed revolution; or anything similar. Revolutionaries, activists, social engineers, intellectuals, students, workers; all of these and more might appear in such stories of the conflicts that lead to an Uprising. What we are not looking for are stories in which there is a revolt or protest, but only as a window dressing. Some aspect of civil disobedience, revolution or protest needs to be front and center. Please note that while we're primarily looking for general speculative fiction (dark, urban, dystopic, even post-apocalyptic) stories, we may also accept science fiction, alternative history, supernatural or any other sort of spec fiction as long as it meets the basic theme. Submission guidelines:
All stories should be submitted as an attachment to an email. The file should be in Microsoft Word (.doc) or Rich Text format (.rtf) in 12 point font, single spaced, Times New Roman or similar font. Please number your pages. At the top of the first page, please include the your author information (name, contact information) and the title of the story and a word count. This should be placed top left, also single spaced. Skip one line, then center the title in 14 point font. Then place the body of your story.  It should look like this: 

The preferred length of submissions is 4000 to 10000 words, but longer or shorter works may be considered on a case by case basis.  All submissions must be original works and cannot have previously appeared in any form. Only submissions formatted in Microsoft Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) and written for the Speculative Fiction genre will be accepted.  

Send all submissions as attachments to submissions@kindlingpress.com no later than January 5, 2012.  Accepted submissions will be paid a modest fee, with a further advance to be paid if sales are sufficient to cover it.  Authors will retain full rights to their work beyond this original publishing, which will extend to both e-formats and a small run of traditionally printed copies.

Kindling Press is pleased to announce a call for submissions for the Steampunk short story anthologie 20,001: A Steampunk Odyssey.  In the spirit of Jules Verne's seminal work, we are seeking all manner of short stories in the Steampunk style.  

Preference will be given to stories involving the Sea and its mysterious Denizens; submarine travel and related Contrivances; transoceanic Escapades, mysterious Islands, &c.  

The preferred length of submissions is 2000 to 6000 words, but longer or shorter works may be considered on a case by case basis.  All submissions must be original works and cannot have previously appeared in any form.
